Drip League - Player Eligibility, Team Formation & Roster Management
This page covers everything related to who can play, how teams are formed, and how rosters are managed throughout a season. These rules exist to maintain competitive integrity and prevent roster manipulation.
Table of Contents
Player Eligibility
To compete in Drip League, all players must meet the following requirements:
- Valid Activision Account - Players must have a valid Activision account with an Activision ID registered on their Drip League player profile
- One Account Per Player - Each player may only register one Drip League account. Alt accounts, smurfs, or duplicate registrations will result in all associated accounts being banned
- Discord Membership - Players must be a member of the Drip League Discord server for the duration of their participation
- Accepted Terms - Players must accept the Drip League Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy during registration
- Profile Standards - Player display names must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or misleading content. Impersonating other players, admins, or public figures is prohibited
One Team Per Season
A player may only be on one team's roster at a time. Players who leave or are dropped from a team are subject to a cooldown period before joining a new team (see Roster Changes below).
Players may not compete for multiple teams within the same season except through a legitimate roster transaction (being dropped/leaving and then joining a new team after the cooldown period, within the roster lock window).
Team Formation
Roster Size
- Minimum - 5 players (required to field a match)
- Maximum - 10 players
- Teams that fall below 5 rostered players must recruit to minimum within 7 days or face removal from the schedule
Team Roles
- Captain - Primary team leader. Responsible for match scheduling, roster decisions, match reporting, and all official team communications with league staff. One captain per team
- Co-Captain - Assists the captain. May act on the team's behalf in the captain's absence. One co-captain per team, designated by the captain
- Player - Standard roster member. Eligible to compete in all matches
Team Registration
- New teams must register through the Team Registration form before the season roster lock deadline
- Team registration is open during the pre-season and closes when the season begins
- All new team registrations require admin approval before being added to the schedule
Team Branding
- Team names must not contain offensive, discriminatory, or misleading content
- Team names may not impersonate existing professional esports organizations, brands, or other Drip League teams
- Teams are allowed one name change per season, subject to admin approval
- Team logos must be appropriate for all audiences and may not contain explicit, hateful, or copyrighted imagery
Anti-Hijacking Rule
To prevent hostile takeovers of established teams, a team returning from a previous season must have at least 3 players from the previous season's roster to retain their team name, record, and identity.
If fewer than 3 original players remain, the team is considered a new team and must re-register. They will not carry over any history, standings, or accolades from the previous identity.
Identity Protection
This rule prevents a single player from claiming an established team's identity after the original roster has disbanded.
Roster Lock Timeline
Drip League uses a phased roster lock system across the 10-week regular season. This system balances competitive flexibility with integrity as the season progresses toward playoffs.
| Period | Team Registration | Roster Additions | Roster Drops |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pre-Season | Open | Open | Open |
| Weeks 1-6 | Closed | Open | Open |
| Weeks 7-8 | Closed | Restricted | Open |
| Weeks 9-10 through Playoffs | Closed | Locked | Locked |
Key Details
- Pre-Season - All roster transactions are open. Teams may add, drop, and trade players freely
- Weeks 1-6 - Team registration is closed but rosters remain open. Teams can still add free agents and drop players
- Weeks 7-8 - Roster additions require admin approval. This is to prevent late-season ringers from unfairly impacting the playoff race. Drops remain open so teams can release inactive players
- Weeks 9-10 through Playoffs - Rosters are fully locked. No additions or drops are permitted. Teams compete with the roster they have built
Roster Changes
Adding Players
- Captains may add players to their roster through the Captain Dashboard using a join code
- Players must be a registered free agent or not currently on another team's roster
- Additions are subject to the roster lock timeline above
- Teams may not exceed 10 rostered players at any time
Dropping Players
- Captains may drop players from their roster through the Captain Dashboard
- Dropped players become free agents and are subject to the cooldown period before joining a new team
- Drops are subject to the roster lock timeline above
Leaving a Team
- Players may voluntarily leave their team at any time by notifying their captain and league staff
- Players who leave are subject to the same cooldown period as dropped players
Player Cooldown
- After leaving or being dropped from a team, a player must wait 1 week (7 days) before joining a new team
- The cooldown begins on the date the player officially leaves or is dropped
- This cooldown exists to prevent rapid team-hopping and roster manipulation
- The cooldown does not apply to players who have never been on a team (new registrations)
7-Day Cooldown
The cooldown period ensures roster stability and prevents teams from cycling through players mid-season. Players in cooldown remain visible on the Free Agent marketplace but cannot accept join codes.
Playoff Eligibility
Not every rostered player is automatically eligible for playoff matches. To compete in the playoffs, a player must meet both of the following conditions:
- On the roster by Week 6 - The player must have been added to the team's roster no later than the end of Week 6
- Played in 2 or more regular season matches - The player must have appeared in at least 2 regular season matches for their current team
Players who do not meet both conditions are ineligible for playoff matches. This rule prevents teams from adding ringers specifically for the postseason.
No Exceptions
Playoff eligibility is verified before each playoff match. Fielding an ineligible player results in a match forfeit.
Captain Responsibilities
Captains carry additional responsibilities beyond playing. Failure to fulfill these obligations may result in penalties directed at the captain specifically.
- Confirming match times with the opposing captain
- Hosting matches when designated as the home team
- Submitting match reports within 24 hours
- Managing roster transactions and ensuring all players meet eligibility requirements
- Communicating reschedule requests through proper channels
- Maintaining a roster of at least 5 eligible players
- Ensuring all team members are aware of and comply with league rules
If a captain is suspended or leaves the league, the co-captain assumes the captain role. If no co-captain exists, the team must designate a new captain within 48 hours or face administrative action.
Roster Change Announcements
All roster changes (additions, drops, and voluntary departures) are announced in the designated Discord channel for transparency. This ensures all teams are aware of roster movements across the league.
